NORTHLANE

Northlane released their new single 'Citizen' this week, "a song that was written about the first world police state and our willingness to live under the watch of those in power, for their means, while those who blow the lid on it suffer,” explains Northlane guitarist Josh Smith. “Writing this one was quite a mission – it took a lot of work but we are proud of it and beyond excited to share it with you all.”

2017

It is really up to you how you will let 2017 hit you. Yeah, the idea that mental health is really overlooked in our society is more prominent than ever, on a platform where no one needs it. But it is up to us as individuals to make sure our values don't get lost in the years to come.

Obviously the best way with coping - for us at ROCKCULTURE at least - is music.

Which shows are we going to see you at??

1975, Avenged Sevenfold, A Day to Remember, The xx, Young Guns, Evanescence? They are on our radar so far. More to come, hopefully some reviews too. We will keep you posted. Until then,

Hugs & Kisses

DECEMBER 2016

With all the happenings of the past few months, we have been a bit quiet, call it despair if you will. Then I remembered that music is the only thing that keeps souls alive, so in no particular order, here are things that are exciting us at ROCKCULTURE right now.

French newcomers MERGE, alternative rock I suppose you call them, who had their new album ”Ineffable”  mixed by the same guys as Betraying the Martyrs, released their single “Recovery” ahead of the album’s release (watch it here https://youtu.be/FIPsYYKJ3ng ) and even though the vocals remind us of 50 other bands, they have an unequal soothing effect. Definitely worth a listen and a band to watch out for.

As we just mentioned those Frenchmen Betraying The Martyrs, they will be touring Europe with Chelsea Grin, the metal band from Salt Lake City,  in February and March of 2017. Chelsea Grin have released a few songs from their upcoming album “Self Inflicted” and you can have a listen https://youtu.be/MYhZ0zlydqQ before you go and check them out. German dates so far

Though not 100% sure musicians should voice their political views too loudly, we do love what Stick To Your Guns have done in support of Standing Rock. The Orange County hardcore band have released the title track  “Better Ash Than Dust” from their recently released EP, available from Pure Noise Records at http://smarturl.it/STYG or on iTunes.

“With the eyes of the world on what is happening in North Dakota and the Dakota Access Pipeline, I think this a perfect time to release this video,” says vocalist Jesse Barnett. “So much of what is happening to the indigenous people of what we call America is not just horrifying, but down right unacceptable. This is not just an injustice against these people, their land and their water, but it’s a perfect example of how what we call a civilized society can, more often than not, be barbaric and disgusting. The support that the whole world has shown for Standing Rock has been an inspiring thing to watch and this band stands in solidarity with them.”

The band and their record company will be donating a dollar per share, up to a thousand dollars each, to Standing Rock front line warriors.

Stick To Your Guns are not just an inspiration – look at what their support and all the voices from the supporters at Standing Rock have accomplished! – but they make pretty decent music, too. You can follow them on https://www.facebook.com/STYGoc and find out more about their upcoming tour. ROCKCULTURE cannot wait to see them live in April at the Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt.

On that note, we will love you and leave you, enjoy the festive season, cherish your loved ones and we will see you again in 2017!

Best wishes

DANKESCHÖN ARCHITECTS!

We all have our personal stories of loss and pain.

The Architects gig at Batschkapp last night was not just a tribute to Tom Searle and his incredible songwriting. It was a tribute to the band, to everyone who has ever gone through hard times - our own hardships always feel like the worst- and without wanting to sound all mushy, it helped to find a little peace. At the end of the day, we are all in the same boat and I am so grateful that lyrics and music will always be a place to express and console equally.

Thank you xxxxx

October continued.....

Well with Austin being ill again and Of Mice & Men cancelling their tour, it made the rest of the month's events even more exciting.

27 October. Batschkapp, Frankfurt. Not only are Batschkapp celebrating their 40th anniversary, but Architects are venturing on this tour, which will be the most humbling gig. "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" speaks more volumes than it ever did and we, for one, cannot wait to see this epic show. One of our "followers" said how grateful he was that Architects are playing these shows- I could not agree more.

With Stick to Your Guns and Bury Tomorrow (remember how we raged about their album "Earthbound" back in January?!) supporting Architects, this will be THE gig of the month.

It will be really nice to go and relax to Ricky Wilson and his Kaiser Chiefs come 29 October in Wiesbaden. They always put on a FUN show, but it is hardly going to compare to the gig mentioned before.

Hope to see you at one of these gigs- yeah?

Watch this space for November's goodies.....Twin Atlantic, THE CURE, Biffy Clyro, Bullet for My Valentine, YOUNG GUNS, WHILE SHE SLEEPS, Bring Me the Horizon!!!!!

October 2016

As mentioned last month, concert season is in full swing, we still haven't decided if to see PJ Harvey in Cologne or Of Mice & Men in Frankfurt. It is almost like in November, where I cannot decide whether to go for Justin Bieber or Bullet for my Valentine. Funny how this month, ROCKCULTURE are especially excited about 27 October and 28 October.

Batschkapp in Frankfurt are welcoming Architects on 27 October as part of their German tour (hurry, tickets are selling fast) and having been fortunate enough to have seen Tom Searle's last concert in Nürnberg back in June, we are beyond honored to see them touring and hopefully healing with the love and support they are shown all over the world. I am not sure we will review the gig, or should I say how I would be able to review the gig, though I have a preconception of how it will go: surreal, yet awesome, with few words left to say.

Normally ROCKCULTURE don't get overly excited by new releases,  but on 28 October both Memphis May Fire and Frank Iero & the Patience release their new albums.

Memphis May Fire's new album "This Light I Hold" (Rise Records) looks promising and the title track has an incredibly cool video featuring Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach) - of course if you're in Germany you won't be able to watch it, otherwise check it out https://youtu.be/01BzeeoBXuI

Frank Iero and the Patience's new record "Remedy" is taking the UK by storm, the BBC absolutely loving it, so when his album "Parachutes" (Hassle Records) comes out, I really hope he can follow suit.
