Festival Season is Upon Us

Not long to go, peeps.

Which are your favourite festivals? What makes them special? Do you go for the music and the acts? Or do you go to be with your mates? To get sloshed and end up in a ditch? Or is it all of those things?

I want to know - please send me your thoughts either via Instagram or email - nicole@rockculture.net

If you’re a person who travels, which countries do you think pull off the best festivals and why?

Rockculture are particularly fond of Rock im Park and Rock Werchter. Both always have incredible line-ups and the hospitality is good. This year we’re also looking to attend some British festivals, like Lytham Festival, so watch this space.

The line ups for these festivals are insane - Babymetal, Dogstar, Green Day, Corey Taylor, Machine Head, While She Sleeps, Queens of the Stone Age - dude! that’s only Nuremberg! Werchter have Foo Fighters headlining and Lytham Festival have Madness, Rick Astley, James and Johnny Marr.

Here’s some photos from some of our faves from last year’s Rock im Park which was epic, to say the least.

Festival Season is Upon Us

What better way to kick off the festival season than to fly to Boston?

Boston Calling has been an institution for decades, starting off as a tiny venue and evolving into a huge spectacle with four stages.

Local acts have always had their place and new artists will always get a chance to perform. With Boston being the home of Berklee College of Music, the competition will always be tough but it’s a delight to see the variety of talent each year.

We’ve come to explore but also to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It’s been too long.

We may be extremely excited to see the Foo Fighters, too. Their new drummer Josh Freese will absolve his probatory time during the next few gigs. With his resume of drumming for A Perfect Circle, The Vandals and Devo, I think he’ll be alright.

Saturday brings us many more acts, though we have come for Alanis Morissette. She is a queen. Full stop.

And Sunday we end with Queens of the Stone Age and Paramore, though we are also intrigued to see King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - it will take magic for us to fly from stage to stage.

Following Boston we are intending to attend Rock im Park. The line up looks promising. For now, Boston is Calling.

Boston Calling 2023

So many gigs and so little time

Hoping that Rock Werchter will be better organised than Rock im Park was, we feel the need to head to smaller venues- to enjoy the actual gig and in order to keep sane. The big crowds make it so hard to enjoy the music, which is why we enjoyed Cane Hill in Trier that much. Why they only supported is beyond us, but so are a lot of things.

Before heading to Belgium we are making our way to the Batschkapp to see Stone Temple Pilots on 26 June. Be there, unless of course you go and see them the night before in Cologne at the Live Music Hall. Their European tour continues, so if you can, you should check them out.

Werchter next for Rockculture and friends and we will actually be leaving Werchter early, mainly because Lamb of God are back in Frankfurt. They play Batschkapp on 01 July. Check out their other dates on lamb-of-god.com though

Some may call them conceited, some may call them genius, we just call them Royal Blood. First time heard about them was through MUSE and supporting Foo Fighters at Fenway Park. They started out as a unique kind of band, their attitude may or may not have helped them along the way. There comes a time in every band’s life though, when you have to be humble. I will observe their attitude and their live set on 23 July in Wiesbaden at the Schlachthof or on 24 July in Hamburg at the Grosse Freiheit 36….

A band who have always had fun with what they do are The Damend. We are super excited to see some headline shows from them again. They play

Schlachthof, Bremen on 30.07.2019 and

Stollwerck, Köln on 01.08.2019

That is us done for July. Catch more from us next week. Over and out.

Christmas Presents and an Exciting 2018

What tours are you excited for in 2018????

The festival line ups in Europe are insane for 2018, agreed? Foos, Pearl Jam, MUSE, QOTSA to name but a few. ROCKCULTURE are super stoked about the ARCHITECTS and WHILE SHE SLEEPS tour(s), naturally, but here are two acts we are so excited about that we almost peed our pants (but only almost). Can you name the bands in the photos? More on them in our next news blog.
